Charles Edward “Chuck” Ebright

Charles Edward “Chuck” Ebright, age 88, of New Philadelphia, passed away Sunday, December 27, 2015 in Country Club Retirement Campus at Dover following a period of declining health.

Chuck was the son of the late George E. Ebright and Myra J. (Mortimer) Ballard. He was born June 28, 1927 in Springfield, Ohio and was a 1945 graduate of Springfield High School. Following graduation, Chuck served his country in the United States Army as a Sergeant.

On February 5, 1952, Chuck married the former Kathryn Mae Holmes, who preceded him in death on March 17, 1998, having shared 46 years of marriage. In his professional life, Chuck retired from Quimby Material Handling in 1982 as a Master Mechanic, and went on to retire a second time in 1996 from Benchmark Construction, where he worked as a Master Electronic Technician.

Chuck was an active member of the New Philadelphia Lodge #177 F. & A. M. for numerous years.  He was also a member of the New Philadelphia Order of the Eastern Star Chapter #222, as well as the Tuscarawas Chapter #38 Royal Arch Masons, Tuscarawas Council #109 Royal & Select Masons, the Canton Commandery #38, and the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of Canton. He served in numerous leadership roles and was a Knight of the York Cross of Honour and a recipient of the Knight Templar Cross of Honour.

Chuck is survived by his children, Victoria E. Eichel of New Philadelphia, Nancy M. (Terry) Miller of Midland City, Alabama, and Debra K. (Michael) Bleininger of New Philadelphia; 16 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and 6 great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents and wife, Chuck was preceded in death by two grandchildren and a brother, John Raymond Ebright.

Visitation will be held in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home at New Philadelphia on Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. where a Lodge of Sorrow will commence at 6:45 p.m. A funeral service celebrating Chuck’s life will be held in the funeral home’s chapel on Thursday at 10:30 a.m. with Reverend Dennis Rohn officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Burial Park at New Philadelphia where the New Philadelphia V.F.W. Post #1445 will render military honors. Friends are invited to the Schoenbrunn Moravian Church for a reception following the committal service.
